Employee Status: This position is filled by a salaried (exempt), professional, full-time, twelve month employee.
Employee Environment: This position entails frequent evening and weekend work,holiday and holy day work. The campus minister is a member of a professional team including the priest pastor, part-time priest associate for weekend liturgies, business manager, pastoral associate, and director of religious education. Employee Supervisor: Pastor, Saint Mary Church & Campus Ministry Center Description of Position: The Director of Campus Ministry is a pastoral associate who works collaboratively with other staff members in ministering to the student and resident parishioners within the vision of community life recommended by the Parish Council and the parish direction implemented by the pastor and staff. In particular, the Director of Campus Ministry provides for the ministerial needs of students at Miami through programming, listening and presence. The Campus Minister focuses and fosters the faith development of students at Miami University, and is a liaison to parents, faculty, and administrative staff, alumni and other campus ministers.
Position Responsibilities: · Facilitates and supervises student activities in prayer, faith-sharing and social interaction. · Facilitates and supervises semester retreat experiences and community involvement and outreach mission activities. · Develops and coordinates student empowerment opportunities in parish ministries and leadership roles, religious vocations, and career church opportunities. · Identifies and nurtures student leadership to various parish/campus groups; facilitates and supports the meetings and parish/campus activities of the Catholic Student Advisory Board (CSAB). · Facilitates worship celebrations scheduled on campus, and assists other responsible parish staff/volunteers in promoting student involvement and leadership in liturgical ministries, planning regular, seasonal, and special liturgies, and executing special parish liturgies related to campus functions (Family Weekend, Homecoming, Graduation, etc.). · Facilitates with other staff members a parish identity at the university and a campus contact with students through means of regular campus visitation, publicity and program awareness in student brochures, periodic newsletters, ad hoc flyers, and when possible, in networking individuals and groups. · Assists other parish staff in designing and coordinating semester religious education and formation experiences, including the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. · Coordinates fund raising and development activities to support campus ministry; coordinates a bi-annual (December and March) fund raising newsletter to parents and alumni; prepares an annual parish budget request for campus ministry program and an annual parish subsidy request to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati; supports staff in developing and maintaining accurate student, parent, and alumni data information; develops a mutually agreed upon job description and supervision style for any hired Associate Director of Campus Ministry or Campus Ministry Interns.
Position Qualifications: · Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in related field; willingness to pursue Master’s Degree or completion of the Frank J. Lewis Institute for Campus Ministry; · Three to five years experience in a university or related student or young adult environment within the Catholic tradition; · Skills in program planning and coordination, budget preparation, fund-raising and administration; · Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and other programs utilized in the design of brochures and newsletters; · Planning skills for liturgies (including Mass and prayer services), retreats, bible studies and faith sharing; · Ability to work independently within a collaborative setting with other staff members; · Ability to multi-task and manage many programs that are scheduled within each academic semester while also planning future programs and events; · A creative vision for future campus ministry goals for the future.
Position Benefits: Salary ($30-32k) negotiable upon qualification and experience. Health insurance, retirement and other benefits as provided by St. Mary’s Parish and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Personnel Policies.
The Catholic Campus Ministry Program at St. Mary’s Parish is a well-established program that attracts nearly 2,000 students from Miami University in many different ways. Many students attend Mass each weekend; others become more involved in a wide variety of ministries and programs scheduled each semester. Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio.
